Worcester Carnival 2022

About Worcester Carnival 2022

Following a 2-year hiatus due to COVID, we were pleased to be able to return to Worcester’s streets for our biggest Carnival yet.  Over 30 community groups joined the parade, with over 40 stallholders on Carnival Village for the day.  Thousands of residents and visitors turned out to watch and participate.

For more information on Worcester Carnival 2022, here is our Official Souvenir Brochure

The Parade

Each year the parade has a suggested theme for participants.  In 2022 we chose the theme of “Celebration”. We felt that this embraces the ethos of carnival, the jubilee year, and the coming-together of people post-COVID.  It also restates our vision for Worcester Carnival – to celebrate Worcester and its people – past, present and future.

Worcester Carnival Pilot Project

This year we piloted a new approach by commissioning an artist to co-create an environmentally friendly float with Dines Green Community Academy.  Support for this commission has come from Severn Arts with investment from the Arches Worcester project which is funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) Cultural Development Fund.

Worcester Warriors Community Foundation

Warriors Community Foundation | The Power Of Sport (worcesterwarriorsfoundation.org)

The Warriors Community Foundation exists to help build a legacy for sport, education, health and social cohesion across our communities.

We use the power of sport to engage and inspire people who are vulnerable across all age groups to live an active, healthy and rewarding lifestyle. We support people who are isolated, disengaged, disadvantaged, living with a range of disabilities or conditions such as dementia; and those who have individual and complex needs.

Severn Area Rescue Association

SARA – Severn Rescue | Mountain Rescue | Inshore Lifeboats | Search and Rescue (sara-rescue.org.uk)

SARA: Saving Lives on and around the Severn for almost 50 Years
SARA is a volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity, with 7 lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn.  In 2021 SARA was called out 113 times.

SARA’s Wyre Forest station is located at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Services (HWFRS) Wyre Forest Emergency Services Hub. The combined resources of SARA and HWFRS ensures the area is better prepared for any local water rescue incidents and large-scale flooding responses.

The station is the base for our land search team and the inland water & flood rescue team. It houses four SARA inshore rescue boats – SARA 8, SARA 9, SARA 10 and SARA 26 – alongside our land rover Mobile 4 and an incident support unit (ISU) vehicle. The team also has a set of inflatable rescue sleds and a large raft.

SARA is now tasked by H&W Fire Control as well as responding to requests from West Mercia Police, West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service. We cover the River Severn and all adjoining waterways etc., as well as providing land/bank search rescue teams as and when required.

Childhood cancer is the most common medical cause of death of children in the UK. Every year, just under 4,000 children and young adults receive this life changing diagnosis.

The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is working to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the signs and symptoms with which it may present. We produce educational resources for parents and clinicians, provide support to families and fund research into rare cancers of childhood.

Our Sponsors

Worcester Bosch

This will be our third time as a sponsor of the Carnival since it was resurrected in 2017.  We’ve found that it’s a fantastic opportunity for our staff to get involved in this vibrant community event and as the years go by we are getting more and more staff wanting to be involved and feeling proud that we as an organisation are supporting such a ‘diary date’ in the Worcester calendar.
